Early tools

Early humans began making simple stones tools in eastern Africa about 2.6 million year ago. These tools are likely to have been made of sticks or natural stone. This technology is called Mode 1. Oldowan tools were created by smashing a lava cobblestone using a hammerstone. Then, you scraped out the core rock fragments. This technology was not used widely until the 16th century, when brass-made vending machines appeared in England. Richard Carlile was able to sell banned books using a vending device in the 17th Century.

The first fax machine

The earliest fax machine was a crude machine, devoid of many of the features that modern fax machines offer. It was invented by Alexander Bain in 1921, using elements from an electrical clock to make a facsimile device. This device could scan line-by-line messages. Japanese companies joined the US market in 1864. The market grew from 30,000 fax machines to 300,000. Many people feared that fax technology could be lost with the advancement of the internet. However the technology continues to be used today by Fortune 500 businesses, the healthcare industry, as well other organizations.

CERN engineers developed the first touch screen in the 1970s. The first prototype used electrodes that changed resistance when a finger touched the panel. Alan Turing

Turing was created in 1912. His mother was a nurse and his father was a minister. He was an excellent student at maths, but he fell apart after being rejected from Cambridge University. He learned chess after being rejected by Cambridge University. He won numerous tournaments. He was a British code-breaking specialist, Bletchley Park. There he cracked German codes.

He died in 1954.

John McCarthy

McCarthy was conceived in 1928. He studied maths at Princeton University before joining MIT. He developed the LISP programming language. By 1957 he had created the foundations of modern AI.

He died in 2011.
