These internships prepare students for jobs after graduation. Liberty University has many program options that allow you to pursue your passion.
FAQ
Who created AI?
Alan Turing
Turing was created in 1912. His mother was a nurse and his father was a minister. After being rejected by Cambridge University, he was a brilliant student of mathematics. However, he became depressed. He began playing chess, and won many tournaments. After World War II, he was employed at Bletchley Park in Britain, where he cracked German codes.
He died on April 5, 1954.
John McCarthy
McCarthy was born in 1928. McCarthy studied math at Princeton University before joining MIT. There he developed the LISP programming language. He was credited with creating the foundations for modern AI in 1957.
He died on November 11, 2011.
Who are the leaders in today's AI market?
Artificial Intelligence (AI), is a field of computer science that seeks to create intelligent machines capable in performing tasks that would normally require human intelligence. These include speech recognition, translations, visual perception, reasoning and learning.
There are many types of artificial intelligence technologies available today, including machine learning and neural networks, expert system, evolutionary computing and genetic algorithms, as well as rule-based systems and case-based reasoning. Knowledge representation and ontology engineering are also included.
There has been much debate about whether or not AI can ever truly understand what humans are thinking. Recent advances in deep learning have allowed programs to be created that are capable of performing specific tasks.
Google's DeepMind unit has become one of the most important developers of AI software. Demis Hashibis, the former head at University College London's neuroscience department, established it in 2010. DeepMind developed AlphaGo in 2014 to allow professional players to play Go.
Is AI good or bad?
AI can be viewed both positively and negatively. Positively, AI makes things easier than ever. We no longer need to spend hours writing programs that perform tasks such as word processing and spreadsheets. Instead, we ask our computers for these functions.
On the other side, many fear that AI could eventually replace humans. Many people believe that robots will become more intelligent than their creators. This means that they may start taking over jobs.
AI is useful for what?
Artificial intelligence refers to computer science which deals with the simulation intelligent behavior for practical purposes such as robotics, natural-language processing, game play, and so forth.
AI can also be called machine learning. This refers to the study of machines learning without having to program them.
AI is being used for two main reasons:
-
To make our lives easier.
-
To be better at what we do than we can do it ourselves.
Self-driving vehicles are a great example. AI can do the driving for you. We no longer need to hire someone to drive us around.
How does AI function?
An artificial neural network consists of many simple processors named neurons. Each neuron takes inputs from other neurons, and then uses mathematical operations to process them.
Neurons are organized in layers. Each layer serves a different purpose. The raw data is received by the first layer. This includes sounds, images, and other information. It then sends these data to the next layers, which process them further. The final layer then produces an output.
Each neuron has a weighting value associated with it. When new input arrives, this value is multiplied by the input and added to the weighted sum of all previous values. If the number is greater than zero then the neuron activates. It sends a signal to the next neuron telling them what to do.
This is repeated until the network ends. The final results will be obtained.
From where did AI develop?
The idea of artificial intelligence was first proposed by Alan Turing in 1950. He believed that a machine would be intelligent if it could fool someone into believing they were communicating with another human.
John McCarthy wrote an essay called "Can Machines Thinking?". He later took up this idea. In 1956, McCarthy wrote an essay titled "Can Machines Think?" He described in it the problems that AI researchers face and proposed possible solutions.
Are there potential dangers associated with AI technology?
Of course. They will always be. AI poses a significant threat for society as a whole, according to experts. Others believe that AI is beneficial and necessary for improving the quality of life.
AI's potential misuse is the biggest concern. AI could become dangerous if it becomes too powerful. This includes autonomous weapons and robot rulers.
AI could also replace jobs. Many people worry that robots may replace workers. Others think artificial intelligence could let workers concentrate on other aspects.
For example, some economists predict that automation may increase productivity while decreasing unemployment.

- While all of it is still what seems like a far way off, the future of this technology presents a Catch-22, able to solve the world's problems and likely to power all the A.I. systems on earth, but also incredibly dangerous in the wrong hands. (forbes.com)
